Tips for "Blocked" Writers

This was an answer I wrote for Yahoo and thought it helpful (yeah...I give pretty good advice to myself and others...I think).

Ugh! I hate writers' block. But I learned some new tips...

1. Revise. If there's anything that you don't like or lead to your dead end, try rewriting (but keep the old--maybe you can add it back in or improve!)

2. Use Humor (this helps get the story going again--add a scene with no point but gets your audience laughing)

3. Research. Read similar genres in books, watch movies, TV, listen to music, brainstorm (you never know. Even if your idea stinks, it still might inspire better ideas), record your dreams in the morning after you wake up--AND EAT CHOCOLATE!!!

4. Remember. If you have memories that you want to share or add, add them! Your own experiences make it more realistic!

5. Write something else. No matter what, always write something. It keeps you going and gets your "juices" flowing.

6. Surround yourself with people. New things happening, new discussions, new experiences--they can help you!

7. Write for yourself! As long as you like it, other people will too.

8. Give yourself some you time, too--not everything has to be about your book.

Good Luck! Hope this helps everyone.
